Fall Camping Tips: 4 Ways to Enjoy Camping in the Fall

As a full-time RVer, I’ve had my fair share of fall days spent at a campground! Below, I’ll share my best fall camping tips to help you make the most of your fall break! These tips are easy to follow, and they’ll help ensure your vacation is everything you hoped it would be.

Pick Your Ideal Destination

First and foremost, don’t let anyone else tell you where you should spend your fall camping trip. There are thousands of gorgeous locations throughout the USA, so pick the one that calls to you. Whether that’s out in the Badlands, where there’s no sign of fall foliage, or deep in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, pick your ideal destination and go with it.

Plan Ahead

Next, you’ll want to plan ahead. Plan your route and your packing list, book your campground ahead of time. Be sure to research the campgrounds in the area and the amenities available at each so that you can find the right fit for your RV and your expectations. Additionally, you can sometimes find exact site recommendations in the comments, so take a look at those before you book to be sure you get a great site.

Stay Hydrated

With the cooler weather, it can be hard to remember to drink enough water. I recommend keeping a large water bottle around the campground like a Yeti and refilling it whenever it gets low. This usually helps me to keep drinking throughout the day so that I stay hydrated.

Arrive Early

Plan to get to the campground by no later than 3 PM during the fall because the sun sets earlier. You’ll want to leave yourself plenty of time to check in and get set up before the sun goes down. We’ve made the mistake of getting to the campground late, and it was a nightmare to try and back our RV into the tiny site we had. Learn from my mistakes and get there with plenty of time to set up and get settled.
